It’s a woman’s world when it comes to lipsticks. Lipsticks are one of the bare necessities of life where most women are concerned. They feel naked without them.
I use to wear lipstick until I found out that some of the ingredients in them were toxic. Heavy metals in a wide range of affordable and high-end lipsticks have been linked to several health problems such as neurotoxicity, reduced fertility in men and women as well as hormonal changes; while Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAHs) has been shown to increase the risk for breast cancer.
It’s been over five years now since I’ve put lippy on my lips, so I was over the moon when The Organic Project asked me to try out an Australian lipstick brand called nūdus.
nūdus, a Latin word meaning naked, is made from all natural ingredients.
How delighted I was when seven of the ten nūdus lipsticks arrived on my doorstep. I couldn’t wait to pucker up and try each one.

Each nūdus lipstick colour glided on my lips with ease and their texture felt so smooth and silky.
I found that the colours do fade from the lips after eating and drinking. However my lips didn’t dry out and peel; nor did they feel tacky.
THE TASTE

Thank goodness the flavour of these organic lipsticks from nūdus didn’t leave a bitter foul taste in my mouth as other ‘high end’ lipstick brands use to.
I certainly do not need any excuse, like going to a party, just to wear nūdus lipstick.
LIPSTICK INGREDIENTS

I checked out the ingredients list of each nūdus lipstick and I needed to know more about Tribehenin and Carmine.
So I sent Diana Saltoun Goltsman (the founder of nūdus) an e-mail to find out more about these two ingredients before The Organic Project sent her lipsticks my way.
Here’s what Diana had to say:
“Tribehenin is actually made from the rapeseed plant. The oil is cold pressed from the black seeds of the plant. A highly nutrient dense plant that has many health benefits also. It is not made from palm oil. It has all three of the fatty acid components. Which include omega 3,6 and 9.
When it comes to Carmine we only source the best on the market and yes, it is organically raised. Because we are certified, all our ingredients have to be produced and processed to the highest and strictest of standards. We must obtain all documents on each raw ingredient. There can be no chemical processing and we have all traceability on each ingredient.
The lipsticks that do not contain Carmine are Fairy Tales, 27 kisses, bitter sweet and naked.”
*Carmine is a rich red pigment derived from the Cochineal insect. These insects have been organically raised; so there is absolutely no pesticide residue in any of the nūdus lipsticks that contain Carmine.
nūdus – Over Two Years In The Making
“Our certified organic fragrance oil is made to order and ONLY uses certified organic essential oils and certified organic fruit extracts. We as a company must obtain our suppliers documentation and certifications on all products. Our fragrance oil is certified organic and we have the certificate from our supplier certified by a reputable certification body. When companies have this certificate the products can not be processed with any synthetic or chemical processing methods, it cannot be irradiated nor tested on animals nor contain any harmful toxic chemicals. We get audited and checked every year to make sure we are sticking to the strict standards. Each and every ingredient is tested, this is why it was so important for me to obtain a certification of this kind so that the consumer would have peace of mind. The fragrance oil is not your typical fragrance that you find in perfumes with a host of toxic chemicals, it is beautifully made and it took me a long time to find such an amazing product. We can not just write anything we would like, we get checked on all packaging also.”

LIPSTICK CASES

nūdus lipstick cases are B.P.A. free and the corners are slightly rounded.
This is good news for women who practice Feng Shui (an ancient Chinese tradition of bringing balance and peace into your life). In Feng Shui, any object with sharp corners is considered to disrupt positive energy flow in the home or work place.

If only nūdus lipstick cases were re-usuable; where you were able to pop out/remove the empty lipstick insert and pop in a new one? It will be hard for me to part with the cases once they are empty as they are too beautiful to throw out!
THE PRICE
$42 AUD may seem a high price to pay for a lipstick but nūdus COSMOS Organic label guarantees that you are getting the real deal. There is no need for any of the ingredients in nūdus lipsticks to be tested on animals for that reason.
